Melamine - Now in chicken eggs

and filed in: eggs melamine On Dalian Life

Melamine was added to the milk used in the manufacture of milk powder, common milk tests fail to distinguish between the nitrogen in Melamine and nitrogen that naturally occurs in Amino acids. Over consumption of Melamine causes kidney failure amongst other medical complaints. Melamine added to Sanlu milk powder was responsible for the deaths of 4 infacts and the sickness of tens of thousands.

Now, CNN report, it's in eggs originating from Dalian.

In a statement late Saturday, the government said it found 4.7 parts per million of melamine in the eggs produced by a division of China's Dalian Hanwei Enterprise Group based in the northeastern port city Dalian.

The legal limit of melamine in Hong Kong is 2.5 ppm.

Hong Kong Secretary for Food and Health York Chow said the melamine may have come from fertilizer fed to chickens that laid the eggs. "The preliminary opinion experts have given us is that there is a problem with the fertilizer," Chow told reporters.

If it's in the feed of chickens it could well be in everything we eat, from milk to meat. I'm considering independent checks of everything I eat and publishing of the findings, who's with me?

A Sick System

The Chinese food system is rotten from top to bottom and we are all suffering because the Chinese Communist Party wants to stick with a non-transparent political system that hides problems such as this.

Saw this in the Shenzhen

Saw this in the Shenzhen Daily today. Just another major screw up in the food industry here. Starting to wonder what I can still eat. Guess there's always Tsingtao.

Tsingtao?

Bad beer but you're aware Tsingtao have imported barley from Australia and Canada since the late 90s? Local varieties have too many pesticides. Even beer isn't safe.
